Omar Shakir, MD MBA
Dr. Shakir is the founding partner of Coastal Eye Surgeons. He is a Yale fellowship-trained ophthalmologist who specializes in cataract and vitreoretinal surgery. He serves as an Instructor in the Department of Ophthalmology at Yale University.
Highly personalized eye care and surgery is what he considers the pride of his practice. Dr. Shakir completed medical school at Albany Medical College and was part of the prestigious Leadership in Medicine program. In medical school, Dr. Shakir earned multiple ophthalmology research awards and spent time at the Wilmer Eye Institute of Johns Hopkins University doing world-class research. He furthered his medical training with internship at Johns Hopkins University and residency at the University of Florida. He then went on to complete a two-year Vitreous and Retina Surgery Fellowship at Yale University.
Dr. Shakir was born and raised on the Space Coast of Florida. He left the Sunshine State after high school for the Empire State where he played Division III College Baseball and was a Liberty League Scholar-Athlete at Union College. As a Presidential scholar at Union, he graduated with honors in Political Science and Biology. Dr. Shakir lives with his wife Dr. Aniqa Anwar in Cos Cob. Dr. Anwar is a pediatrician with the Center for Advanced Pediatrics in Norwalk and Darien.

Farihah Anwar, MD
Dr. Farihah Anwar was born and raised in Manhasset Hillls, New York. She is proud to join Coastal Eye Surgeons as a partner after her time as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Virginia Commonwealth University, where she taught and trained residents in ophthalmology and performed cutting-edge research.
Dr. Anwar was the valedictorian of her high school. She stayed on Long Island to attend the competitive Scholars for Medicine program within the Honors College at Stony Brook University. She then completed her medical internship at St. Raphael’s Hospital and Yale New Haven Hospital. Dr. Anwar returned to Long Island for ophthalmology residency at Northwell Health (formerly North Shore/Long Island Jewish Health System). She did advanced training in Glaucoma at Harvard Medical School’s Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary.
She offers the highest level of Glaucoma care in the country with various lasers and surgical techniques, including infants and adults. She also performs laser cataract surgery with premium intraocular lenses.
Dr. Anwar returns to Connecticut with her husband Dr. Mubdiul Ali, a critical care doctor and pulmonologist. In her free time, Dr. Anwar enjoys spending time with her family in Long Island, exercising, and traveling.
