Dr. Shakir grew up in Florida near Cape Canaveral on the Space Coast. Before pursuing a career in ophthalmology, he played Division III baseball at Union College in Schenectady, New York.

Omar Shakir, MD, MBA, is a board-certified ophthalmologist with extensive experience in eye care. Voted one of the Best Cataract Surgeons in America 2022, 2023 and 2024, he brings a wealth of expertise to Coastal Eye, located in Greenwich, Connecticut, where he provides comprehensive eye care services to patients throughout Fairfield County. Dr. Shakir serves as a Principal Investigator for many Phase 2, 3, and 4 Clinical Trials and is committed to using the latest technologies and most advanced techniques, ensuring that his patients receive top-quality care.

Dr. Omar Shakir is the founding partner of Coastal Eye, specializing in cataract and vitreoretinal surgery. He is also a Clinical Instructor at Yale University, where he shares his expertise with the next generation of eye care professionals. Dr. Shakir received a Doctor of Medicine from Albany Medical College in Albany, New York, followed by an internship at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. During a residency at the University of Florida, he honed his skills in ophthalmology. Dr. Shakir completed a two-year vitreous and retina surgery fellowship at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, where he gained extensive experience treating complex eye conditions. Dr. Shakir serves as a Principal Investigator for many Phase 2, 3, and 4 Clinical Trials.With his exceptional training and expertise, Dr. Shakir is committed to providing his patients with the highest quality ophthalmology care.
